Storm threats continue as a complex of storms near the state

EVEN FOR US HERE IN MISSISSIPPI, THERE ARE ALREADY WARNINGS OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS RETRACTING TOWARDS OKLAHOMA THIS MORNING. IT’S OUR NEXT TURN. WE CONTINUE TO GET WAVE AFTER WAVE OF STRONG STORMS. WE CALL THESE MULTI-CONVECTIVE SYSTEMS THAT DEVELOP AND THEN FOLLOW THE JET STREAM. AND IT'S BEEN A LOT IN THE BLOCK FOR SEVERAL DAYS. SO WE'RE GETTING THE SAME EVENT OVER AND AGAIN, AS THESE WAVES DEVELOP TOWARDS OKLAHOMA AND TEXAS. So let's time it hour by hour. THE MORNING HOURS SHOULD BE OVERALLLY DRY, BUT ONCE THIS SYSTEM CROSSES THE RIVER, THAT'S WHEN WE ARE GOING TO EXPERIENCE VERY HEAVY RAIN, STRONG GUSTS. AND LIKE YESTERDAY, THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY THAT SOME OF THESE STRONG GUSTS WILL BECOME ON THE SIDE OF THE DESTRUCTIVE WINDS WITH GUSTS OF MORE THAN 60 miles/hour. THE SOILS ARE ALREADY VERY SATURATED. THIS COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS FOR ADDITIONAL POWER LINES AS WELL AS CUT TREES. IF WE CONTINUE WITH THESE STRONG STORMS AS THEY MOVE TO THE EAST, I BELIEVE AROUND 8:00 PM, MUCH OF THIS THREAT WILL END AND WE WILL HAVE A FEW LONG SHOWERS OVERNIGHT WEDNESDAY. I'M AGAIN WATCHING A NEW BATCH OF RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS THAT COULD MOVE FROM WEST TO EAST FROM LATE THIS MORNING AND THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. So we will follow this system also tomorrow. OVERALL, STRONG WINDS WILL AGAIN BE THE MAIN CONCERN AS SATURATED GROUND, STRONG GUSTS COULD CAUSE ADDITIONAL POWER OUTAGES AS WELL AS TREE FALLS. SO TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION. TODAY 68 DEGREES IS THE CURRENT TEMPERATURE FOR US HERE IN JACKSON. 60S GENERATED THIS MORNING. NOT REALLY THE BEST FORECAST TO GO OUT THIS AFTERNOON. So if you have anything to do before the rain comes, this morning will be the best time to do it. WE GO BACK TO THE 60'S AND 70'S TOMORROW MORNING. HIGH IN THE AFTERNOON, UPPER 80S TO LOW 90S BEFORE RAIN AND STORMS RETURN TO PARTS OF THE AREA. COME TOMORROW, WE WILL KEEP ANOTHER WET WEATHER UNTIL THURSDAY AND THEN A COLD FRONT WILL ARRIVE BY THE END OF THE WEEK. IT SHOULD MAKE US DRY FROM FRIDAY TO SATURDAY, BUT WE ARE WATCHING THE POSSIBILITY OF A FEW SHOWERS AND EVEN A FEW STORMS AS WE MOVE INTO THE START OF NEXT WEEK. >> IT'S ONE OF THOSE WEEKS WHERE YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE UMBRELLA. YES INDEED. AND YOU MUST HAVE YOUR MOBILE APP RIGHT TO BE READY FOR ANYTHING. EXACTLY. >> I mean, I woke up last night to alarms of a severe storm. I think, oh, it's just a severe thunderstorm warning. BUT THEN IT HAD A DESTRUCTIVE TAG WHERE THERE WERE GUSTS MEASURING ABOUT 60 TO 80 MPH. THIS CAN DO MORE DAMAGE THAN A TORNADO SOMETIMES. SO. So whenever you see a severe thunderstorm warning label, don't just remove it. Take it seriously, just like you would a tornado warning. IN SUCH CASES. >> WE WAKE UP TO TREE BRANCHES ALL OVER MY FRONT YARD. >> OH YEAH, I MEAN, WE HAVE TREES IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. IT’S ALSO WASTE DAY IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. AND SO THE PEOPLE WHO HAD THE WASTE, IT'S AL

Storm threats continue as a complex of storms near the state

Severe storms last night caused thousands of power outages and downed trees. With another round of storms this afternoon and the ground being very saturated, additional outages and downed trees are possible before the end of the day. Since this morning, violent storms have been hitting southeastern Oklahoma. It is expected to reach the state by early afternoon and last until early evening. This will make for a complicated commute later in the day. Temperatures, as in recent days, will remain in the upper 80s for the afternoon, with highs falling closer to the mid to upper 90s. Wednesday's outlook will be similar to Tuesday regarding temperatures. There are some inconsistencies regarding a storm threat tomorrow, however, rain and a few thunderstorms are still possible at a minimum. A third day is possible Thursday before a cold front. The effects of our weekend cold front along with the high pressure behind it will determine the forecast for the weekend. Some areas may experience reduced humidity while others may remain hot and humid.
