Stevenson Highway shooting: 1 injured in crash after car shooting on I-55 in Near South Side, Illinois State Police say

CHICAGO (WLS) — One person was injured in a crash after a car was shot down on Stevenson Highway on the Near South Side, Illinois State Police said.

The incident took place in the incoming lanes of I-55 near State Street around 1:20 a.m., police said.

The car was riddled with bullets, but the driver was not injured, police said. The shooting caused the driver to crash into a wall and the driver was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with injuries from the crash, police said.

Police closed parts of I-55 as they investigated the crash, with traffic diverted to the Chinatown on-ramp. The Dan Ryan Highway on-ramp to Stevenson Inbound was also closed to traffic.

Shortly before 7:30 a.m., all lanes were reopened to traffic.

Meanwhile, on Cicero Avenue near Stevenson, Cicero was arrested for more than two hours following a three-car crash.

The roof of a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was torn off and the truck's doors were also torn off.

Debris from the wreck was scattered across the roadway as tow crews worked to free the heavily damaged truck.

Two other sedans involved in the accident, the airbags of at least one car deployed.

Chopper7 was about to recover from the accident when at least one person was loaded into an ambulance.

ABC7 reached out to Chicago police for an update on the drivers' conditions. but we are still waiting for more details.
