State police continue to investigate 1977 murder of Washington County teen

Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the 1977 murder of a Washington County teenager.

Brenda Ritter, 17, of South Strabane Township, left her boyfriend's house on May 18, 1977, during a severe storm. His car was found abandoned a few kilometers away the next day.

Searchers aboard a state police helicopter found Ritter's nearly naked remains on a hillside near Roupe Road, about three-quarters of a mile from his car, state police said. Her clothes were found about 50 feet from her body.

State police said Ritter was sexually assaulted and strangled.
