State Police Charge Two in Alleged Scrap Metal Scam

DUBOIS, Pa. (EYT) — State police have filed charges against a Reynoldsville man and a DuBois woman for their alleged involvement in a scrap metal scam at a local auto salvage business, where they are accused of falsifying sales slips. weighing in exchange for payment.

Court documents say DuBois-based Pennsylvania State Police filed charges against a 43-year-old man. Dustin Karl Wolfeof Reynoldsville, and aged 30 Kayleigh Mae Huzsekof DuBois, on May 14, 2024, in the office of Judicial District Judge David B. Inzana.

According to the criminal complaint, on December 27, 2023, at 2:46 p.m., State Trooper Jason Perry was contacted by an auto salvage company regarding a scrap metal theft.

While reviewing the company's camera footage, they discovered an employee, Wolfwrote out false weighing slips and submitted them to Huzsek to receive payment, the complaint states.

The Dec. 9 video shows three people, including Wolfe and Huzsek, in the company's weighing room. The third person grabbed some copper from a barrel already in the room and placed it on the scale to weigh it. Wolfe, seeing this, wrote out a slip and gave it to Huzsek for payment. The amount was $110.25, although the transaction was canceled before the funds could be transferred, the complaint states.

Huzsek requested that another check be issued, but the company refused to do so, according to the complaint.

Another video taken on November 15, 2023 showed Huzsek and Wolfe in the weighing room. Wolfe placed the items Huzsek brought on the scale, made up a slip, and provided it to Huzsek for payment. The items on the scale did not match the items on the slip and the weights were not correct either. The transaction took place before the company became a victim of the theft. The amount stolen was $199.98, the complaint states.

According to court records, Wolfe faces a secondary metal theft charge, while Huzsek faces a secondary metal theft conspiracy charge. Each charge constitutes a misdemeanor of the second degree.

A preliminary hearing for Huzsek is scheduled for June 13 at 10:30 a.m. and Wolfe's is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. in Judge Inzana's courtroom.
