State police arrest suspects who shot Jay | News

JAY — New York State Police arrested two suspects Monday evening as part of an investigation into an alleged shooting on Sawmill Road here.

Earlier Monday evening, state police advised residents in the Ausable Acres neighborhood to stay home while they pursued the suspects.

The City of Jay's Facebook page posted a notice Monday evening on its official Facebook page urging residents to “remain in their residences at this time.”

According to a press release from New York State Troop B, at approximately 5:23 p.m. Monday evening, “troopers were contacted regarding two suspicious males walking down the road carrying long guns.”

At approximately 6:29 p.m., officers responded to Sawmill Road in the Town of Jay for an alleged shooting into a vehicle.

The suspects fled into a nearby wooded area. State police established a perimeter around the area, the release said.

State Police drone operators K9, SORT and Tri-County SRT were actively searching the area.

“These suspects may be in possession of weapons, do not approach them,” state police warn in the release.
