State Election Commission notifies guidelines for voter identification

For the purpose of identification of voters in the upcoming 2024 municipal and municipal elections, the State Election Commission has notified the guidelines to be adopted for identification of voters by the President as follows:

  1. For identification purposes, voters are advised to bring each of the following documents with them to exercise their right to vote.
    1. Indian passport;
    2. Driving license;
    3. Aadhaar card;
    4. Service Identity Card issued to its employee by the State/Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings, Public Limited Companies;
    5. Bank/postal subscription book with photo;
    6. Panoramic map;
    7. Pension document with photo;
    8. Native inhabitant certificate issued by Deputy Commissioner/Additional Deputy Commissioner.

The Commission clarified that all the documents listed above, which are available only to the head of the family, will be authorized for the purpose of identification of other family members. Similarly, any document in the name of any other member of the family could also be used for the identification of other members, provided that the other members could be identified on the basis of such documents, it added.

Minor discrepancies in the entries relating to the name of the voter, name of father/mother/husband, gender, age or address on the electoral roll will be ignored and the voter will be allowed to vote as long as that his identity can be established. according to the contact details of the voters appearing on the electoral lists and to the satisfaction of the presiding officer or the polling official.

Further, the State Election Commission has declared that no voter shall be allowed to exercise his franchise unless he produces any of the above documents prescribed by the State Election Commission.
