Starkville teacher arrested for touching children

A Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District teacher has been arrested for touching or handling children.

Kelvin Stanfield, 51, of Okolona, ​​was the subject of four arrest warrants issued Thursday morning by the Mississippi 16th Court and was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

According to a news release from the Starkville Police Department, the crimes Stanfield is accused of took place between March and May of this year and involved four victims. SOCSD previously issued a different statement on May 15 stating that an investigation was underway involving an unnamed district employee. It has since been confirmed that it was Stanfield who was the subject of the investigation.

Stanfield is listed on the SOCSD website as an instructor at the Millsaps Career and Technical Center, teaching introduction to construction, construction safety and orientation. He also coaches boys and girls bowling at Starkville High School.

Stanfield was being held at the Oktibbeha County Jail on $40,000 bail.
