Stafford man, teen charged in attempted carjacking in Central Park

A Stafford County man and a teenage girl have been charged with several offenses following a botched carjacking last week in Fredericksburg, police said.

City police spokeswoman Jessica Carter said the alleged incident took place May 24 on Carl D. Silver Parkway in Central Park. A cleanup crew said they were forced out of their vehicle at knifepoint.

By the time Officer MJ Hernandez-Rios responded to the call, the suspects had not taken the vehicle and had fled on foot. Officers surrounded the area and found the suspects hiding in a nearby field.

During the search, Carter said, police learned that one of the suspects had dropped a schoolbag in a large field with thick grass. Police did not initially find the bag, but found it days later during a search involving a drone. Police did not say what was in the bag, but said it contained evidence related to the case.
