Stafford fire on Melanie Hollow Lane displaces seven people, injures one

Stafford Fire and Rescue said that shortly after 4 a.m. Saturday morning, units were called to a structure fire along Melanie Hollow Lane in the southeast part of the county.

Fire and Rescue spokeswoman Katie Brady said callers reported a house on fire. She says crews arrived within five minutes and found a two-story single-family home with fires throughout the second floor. Brady says the fire was under control in about 20 minutes.

The house was occupied by seven people at the time of the fire. Everyone was able to evacuate before the units arrived on site. They have been evaluated; one was transported for non-life-threatening injuries. Smoke alarms sounded appropriately in the residence. The occupants are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Following an investigation by the Stafford County Fire Marshal's Office, Brady said the fire was determined to be accidental and electrical in nature.

Brady says units were assisted on scene by the Fredericksburg Fire Department, Spotsylvania County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management and Quantico Fire and Emergency Services.
