Stafford Fire and Rescue involved in house fire and brush fire on I-95 Sunday

Busy Sunday for Stafford Fire and Rescue. Spokeswoman Katie Brady said two calls in particular kept crews busy.

Brady says just after 10:15 a.m. crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 300 block of Richards Ferry Road. The first arriving units arrived 5 minutes later and reported smoke coming from a single family home. Crews brought the fire under control in around ten minutes. No firefighters or occupants were injured. The occupants are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. The fire remains under investigation by the Stafford County Fire Marshal's Office. Crews were assisted on scene by Fauquier County Fire and Rescue.

Then, just after 1 p.m., Brady said units were dispatched to a reported brush fire along southbound I-95 in the area of Centreport Parkway. Units arrived to find a fast-moving brush fire, due to windy and dry conditions, in the area of the southbound lanes and southbound exit ramp. Crews worked through water supply issues – no fire hydrants in the immediate area – high temperatures and steep terrain to bring the fire under control. Two lanes of I-95 were closed to allow crews to work, as well as the exit ramp.
