Stabbing linked to previously missing Belen girl

A stabbing led to a missing complaint against a 13-year-old girl from Belen, according to an investigation by Valencia County law enforcement.

The previously missing girl has now been located, according to New Mexico State Police.

Valencia County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Cordova Road after 1 p.m. Friday for a report of a stabbing. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect, described as 19-year-old Paige Chavez, left the scene with an adult and a juvenile, who were later reported missing. The vehicle was later found in Albuquerque near Juan Tabo Boulevard.

Albuquerque police arrested Chavez and she is now incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center. She faces an aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charge.

The parents of the previously missing minor have been contacted and are expected to find their child. The other adult in the vehicle will not be charged and was not involved in the stabbing, according to VCSO.
