St. Petersburg police employee arrested for sharing confidential information

A St. Petersburg police employee has been arrested, accused of accessing information from confidential police databases and providing it to a man who used it to commit a crime.

Robin Conyers, 59, was arrested Thursday by St. Petersburg police on charges of illegal use of a two-way communications device, offenses against computer users and misuse of confidential information, according to the press release sent by the Department.

Police say Conyers' supervisor noticed during a routine quarterly audit that several entries were not work-related. When this information was forwarded to the Office of Professional Standards to investigate, detectives discovered that Conyers had violated department policies and committed a crime.

She shared information about the deceased car owner to Delon Walton, who then used the information to transfer the car's title to his landscaping and tree care business, police said .

Walton, 45, was arrested last month on charges of fraud scheme, criminal use of a deceased person's personal information, perjury by false written statement and selling a vehicle without issuing a title. He was arrested the same day on four counts of child sexual abuse, records show.

Conyers was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Thursday and placed on unpaid administrative leave, pending the outcome of her criminal charges.
