SR 87 closed near Tournesol due to wildfire

SUNFLOWER, AZ (AZFamily) — East Valley drivers may have to change their route as a brush fire closed parts of State Route 87 near Tournesol Saturday.

Crews are responding to a wildfire that broke out just east of SR 87 on Forest Road 11 near mile marker 210, according to the Tonto National Forest.

Many means are being used to combat the flames, including aerials that have been called in to help put out the fire.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, northbound lanes of State Route 87 are closed near mileposts 204 to 218 due to the wildfire. There is no estimated reopening time.

Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes; southbound lanes are not affected.
