Springfield triple fatal stabbing suspect arrested

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A not guilty plea was entered Monday for the suspect at the center of a deadly triple assault in Springfield on Sunday that left two women dead. Four charges have been filed against Oshamah Al Kherat, including multiple charges of murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault with a weapon leading to murder.

Al Kherat faced the judge Monday with bandages wrapped around his hands and secured behind his back. He is accused of stabbing three people around noon Sunday on Marion Street, in what police described as a domestic dispute.

Two women died. The third victim, a man, was being treated for serious injuries. The identity of these victims is still unknown at this time.

Meanwhile, in court, Al Kherat needed an Arabic interpreter to communicate with the judge as he faced these four charges. Despite the language barrier, the judge made his decision very clear.

“The accused will be detained without the right to bail by agreement of the parties, without prejudice,” explained the judge in open court.

Al Kherat's next appearance will be at a preliminary hearing on June 17.
