Springfield stabbing victims identified as suspect's wife, daughter

  • Three people stabbed, two fatally, during 'domestic disturbance' in Springfield

The man accused of stabbing three family members, two of them fatally, in Springfield over the weekend appeared in court Monday.

Osamah Al Kherat allegedly stabbed his wife and daughter to death, while seriously injuring his son-in-law, according to a Springfield police spokesperson. The identity of the victims has not yet been released. The surviving victim's injuries are not life-threatening.

Al Kherat pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in Springfield District Court. He was held without bail. He faces two charges of first-degree murder, one charge of assault with intent to kill and one charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to court documents.

The attacks took place days after the wedding of another girl from Al Kherat, MassLive reported. The surviving victim is believed to be her other daughter's new husband.

A criminal complaint including police reports about the incident was sealed after a judge granted a motion brought by prosecutors. The Springfield police spokesperson directed further questions about the attacks to the Hampden County District Attorney's Office. That office did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the 100 block of Marion Street around 11:25 a.m. Sunday, officials said. Al Kherat's wife and daughter were pronounced dead at the scene. Al Kherat's son-in-law was later found by officers and transported to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries.

Al Kherat was arrested on the spot. The police continue to investigate.
