Springfield school bus vandals identified

Both suspects are minors and the matter was resolved with Dutch police, a Springfield Local Schools spokesperson said Friday.

HOLLAND, Ohio — Two suspects responsible for vandalizing several Springfield Local Schools buses have been identified and the issue has been resolved, a district spokesperson said Friday.

It's a story first reported by WTOL 11 on May 28, following a night of vandalism that left several buses inoperable and forced district leaders to cancel some routes.

It was the second time in 10 days that the two masked suspects attacked the Springfield Local Schools transportation department.

In the first incident, on May 18, three buses were hit by stones from the other side of a fence. On May 27, damage spread to six additional buses.

The vandalism ranged from smashed windshields to entire rows of broken windows. A total of nine buses became disabled, causing nearly $30,000 in damage, Springfield Local Schools spokesperson Tayler Redinger said in a statement Friday.

The suspects were filmed breaking into the transportation department and the soccer field.

The Dutch Police Department has identified the two suspects involved and both are minors, Redinger said.

“We resolved the matter with the Dutch police and the minors involved were subject to appropriate measures,” Redinger said. “Thank you to WTOL11 and the community for your help in identifying the suspects.”
