Springfield man sentenced to more than five years in prison on drug charges | News

LANE COUNTY, Ore. — A Springfield man, who was arrested after being found in possession of stolen guns and drugs during a traffic stop in 2022, was sentenced to 70 months in prison on May 8 .

In 2022, a Lane County Sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver, Raymond Martin Kennedy, was initially arrested for driving while suspended, felon in possession of a restricted weapon and two arrest warrants. Further investigation revealed Kennedy was also in possession of three handguns – two of which were stolen – and significant quantities of drugs, including suspected fentanyl, according to LCSO.

Authorities said a total of five cases were ultimately generated against Kennedy.

Kennedy fled the state to avoid conviction, according to LCSO. He was eventually found in Indiana and brought back to Oregon.

According to court records, on May 8, Kennedy pleaded guilty to several charges, including three counts of possession of a firearm, two counts of unlawful possession of heroin, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, illegal possession of a Schedule II substance and flight. or Attempting to elude a police officer. He was sentenced to 70 months in prison, or more than five years.
