Specialist search dogs deployed to search for missing teenager Jay Slater

Jay Slater, 19, an apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle near Blackburn in Lancashire, has been missing for nine days.

Nine days missing: an ongoing search effort

Jay Slater was last seen in Tenerife on the morning of Monday June 17. Jay had traveled to the northwest mountain village of Masca after attending the NRG music festival the night before. Around 8:30 a.m., he called a friend to tell him he had missed his bus and would walk back to his lodgings in the southern town of Los Cristianos, an arduous 11-hour journey on foot through terrain mountainous.

A desperate search intensifies

During the brief call, Jay mentioned that he was lost, needed water and that his phone had only 1% battery left. Since then, police, mountain rescuers and his family have been searching tirelessly for him. As the search enters its ninth day, the involvement of the canine units of the Madrid Civil Guard's Cynological Service marks a significant escalation in the efforts to locate Jay. Tenerife Police confirmed the deployment, stating: “The Civil Guard continues the search for the missing British boy in the Masca neighborhood, belonging to the municipality of Buenavista del Norte (Tenerife).”
