Spanish teenager Lamine Yamal passes school exams during Euro 2024

FC Barcelona winger and Spanish international Lamine Yamal, 16, has successfully passed his school exams.

The teenager received news of his results in Germany, where he is representing Spain at the European Championship.

Yamal, who has scored seven goals in 50 appearances for Barcelona this season, started in Spain's wins over Croatia and Italy before being used as a second-half substitute in the group stage final victory over Albania.

The teenager this week passed his fourth ESO exam, a Spanish educational equivalent of the GCSE exams in the UK or the high school diploma in the US.

Endrick, Yamal and Paez: How do you manage children during major international tournaments?

“I just came out of the training session and I was told everything went well,” Yamal told Spanish radio Onda Cero on Thursday evening. “I passed the exams and now have the ESO title.

“The last grades I saw? To be honest, I saw them on my phone and it said I passed, so I just closed the app, called my mom and told her.”

Yamal studied during the tournament and previously explained how a tutor helped with his education alongside attending a major football tournament.

“I go to class and every day they give me different homework,” Yamal said. “Sometimes they give me more things to do at home, but I do them every day.”

“If they see we are in the quarter-finals or the round of 16, they don't give me much trouble, but on my days off, when my tutor knows I'm not doing anything, he tells me to do it .do this or that mission.

Spain – the only team with a 100% winning record at Euro 2024 so far – will face Georgia in the round of 16 on Sunday at 8pm BST.
