Yesterday a former Metropolitan Police chief inspector said he would treat Slater's disappearance as a murder investigation, saying things “are not looking good” for the 19-year-old.

Steve Gaskin, who held his job at the Met for 25 years, said that when a missing person report came to the police he would decide whether to treat it as either a missing person investigation or a murder case .

“If we treat this as murder from the outset, if it turns out it's not, then nothing is lost, we only have a few hours – people call it hour of 'gold, but in reality it's the 24 golden hours – to gather forensic evidence. before it’s too late,” he told the Daily Mirror.

“I’d like to know what he ate for breakfast.” Why did a 19 year old mason disappear, what was he doing there, I would like to know everything about him, who was the last person to see him, also check his background, I would talk to the police at UK, does he have a criminal record, here or in Spain, what do we know about him.

“The longer this goes on, the more likely you are to suspect a criminal element. It doesn't look good after that amount of time.”
