Southern Indiana auditor arrested on fraud, theft charges

Former Jackson County Auditor Staci Eglen, 44, has been charged with theft, fraud and official misconduct.

JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police arrested a former Jackson County auditor Friday on several criminal charges of misconduct that occurred while she was an auditor.

Staci Eglen, 44, of Seymour, Indiana, was charged with four counts of official misconduct (level six felony), four counts of theft (level 6 felony) and two counts of fraud (level 6 felony ).

ISP detectives began their investigation into Eglen in April 2024, when investigators with the Indiana State Board of Accountability discovered possible misconduct.

Detectives determined that Eglen had altered two invoices and submitted those amended invoices to the Jackson County Treasurer's Office. She allegedly deposited the checks into her personal bank account and received cash that was used for personal purchases.

In total, ISP officials say Eglen obtained approximately $18,000 illegally from the county through fraud and theft.

Eglen was arrested Friday afternoon without incident. She is currently incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail, awaiting her initial appearance in Jackson County Circuit Court.

ISP officials say Eglen resigned as an auditor shortly after the investigation began.
