Southern Colorado law enforcement says goodbye to beloved K9

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) – Southern Colorado deputies are saying goodbye to a recently deceased K9.

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office announced the death of K9 Mondy, who died Wednesday, May 22.

They said Mondy, the 8-year-old Lab, was diagnosed with spinal cancer in late 2023, ultimately cutting short his career. They considered him a valuable asset to the sheriff's office, as well as a partner and friend of Lt. Wolfe.

Deputies said he was well known for his work in District 70 schools, where they said he worked searching for narcotics and marijuana vape pens. Mondy also participated in drug searches at the Pueblo County Detention Center and other local jails.

Mondy was born in England, traveled to Czechoslovakia to begin his training, before training in San Antonio, Texas, and becoming a member of the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office in July 2019, according to deputies.

They also stated the following in their social media announcement:

As we say goodbye, let us reflect on the memories that made Mondy an irreplaceable part of our lives. Mondy came into our lives like a ball of fur, full of energy and curiosity. From the moment he awkwardly flung himself into our hearts, he brought lots of laughter and love. We will all miss you Mondy! Thank you for being a great manager, Lieutenant Wolfe, and for taking such good care of Mondy!!!
