South London predator who raped vulnerable teenager in 1990s jailed

A south London rapist who abused a teenage girl in the 1990s has been jailed almost three decades later.

Colin Moore, 57, was found guilty of four counts of rape and five counts of indecent assault following a trial at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday.

The court heard how Moore, of Grove Lane, Camberwell, abused the girl over four years at locations across west and central London.

The victim was under the age of 16 when Moore's offenses began in 1995.

In 2020, the victim, now an adult, came forward to report the abuse she suffered at the hands of Moore, leading to her arrest and charging.

Detective Sergeant Laura Harcombe said: “Colin Moore is a sexual predator who manipulated and abused a vulnerable young girl he knew.

“Even during his interview, he tried to make his behavior seem acceptable in many circumstances, which couldn't be further from the truth.

“This woman showed great courage in coming forward and reporting the abuse she suffered over a prolonged period to the police.

“We have specially trained officers who have supported her throughout this process and I can only hope that Moore’s conviction will provide her with closure.”

Moore was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing in the same court on September 9, 2024.
