South King Fire, which covers Federal Way, Des Moines and unincorporated parts of King County, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. To commemorate the occasion, South King Fire hosted an open house in Des Moines at Station 67 on June 8 and another open house in Federal Way at Station 62 on June 15.

“I think the most important thing about South King Fire is just, you know, we have an incredible group of people committed to the department,” Chief Dave Van Valkenburg said. “We are here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to serve the community. We have enjoyed a high level of community support. We are very grateful for the support the community has given us over the years, and we will be here for another 75 years.
