South Carolina woman allegedly killed pregnant teen days before her due date

A South Carolina woman is accused of fatally stabbing a pregnant teenager who was about to give birth.

Maylashia Hogg, 17, was found dead in Barnwell County, South Carolina, on Feb. 18, days after she was reported missing, the South Carolina Division of Law Enforcement said.

WACH previously reported, citing officials, that Hogg was due to give birth to a daughter, to be named Londyn Charity, on February 14.

South Carolina authorities announced Monday, July 1, that a suspect has been identified after months of investigation. Jacqueline Reid, 62, has been charged with two counts of murder, according to arrest warrants viewed by PEOPLE.

Authorities say Reid stabbed Hogg multiple times with a sharp weapon. Authorities say Hogg was last seen near Reid's residence and a search warrant at her home revealed “forensic evidence of the crime,” according to the warrants.

Police have not said what the relationship was between Reid and Hogg. It is not yet known whether Reid has pleaded guilty or retained a lawyer.

“Please think of Maylashia’s loved ones,” Barnwell Police Chief Michael Butts said in a statement. “We must continue to care for each other, honor Maylashia and Londyn’s memory, and come together to heal.”
