South Carolina Man Arrested After 5-Month Nationwide Search

A nationwide search was launched in January for suspect Michael Trimaine Jackson after he followed a woman in an attempt to steal her wallet.

TRAVELERS REST, SC (WSPA) – After a nationwide search since January, police announced a suspect wanted on multiple counts of theft in multiple counties has been arrested.

According to the Travelers Rest Police Department, Michael Tremaine Jacksonson was arrested on his warrants in Orlando, Florida, in June. On Monday, the Greenwood Police Department traveled to Florida and executed his warrants.


The search involved multiple agencies in South Carolina and Florida, including the U.S. Marshalls. Authorities said Jackson had more than 40 arrest warrants from multiple police departments, including the Travelers Rest Police Department.

7NEWS previously reported that Jackson followed a 75-year-old woman through several aisles of a Walmart in an attempt to steal her wallet. At the time of the robbery, authorities said Jackson was wearing a lab coat, a COVID-19 mask and a baseball cap.

After allegedly retrieving the wallet, Jackson left Walmart, went to another Walmart store and allegedly purchased two $500 prepaid Visa cards using three of the victim's credit cards.

In 2023, the Greenwood Police Department contacted TRPD regarding a similar theft that occurred in Greenwood.

Jackson was also previously arrested for robbery in Charleston on similar theft charges in June 2020. Authorities said Jackson has a 75-page criminal record, including charges from Upstate agencies.

Jackson was extradited to the Greenwood County Detention Center on Tuesday. He also has arrest warrants in Aiken County and Georgia.
