Sol Tribe Custom Tattoo Closes 2 1/2 Years After Denver Shooting

Sol Tribe Custom Tattoo and Body Piercing closed its doors for the final time Monday, two and a half years after the Denver shop's owner and a manager were killed in a shocking shooting.

For 15 years, the tattoo parlor, located at 56 Broadway, has created a space for women, nonbinary and LGBTQ people in a male-dominated industry.

“It is with a very heavy heart that the staff at Sol Tribe are today suddenly saying goodbye to the studio,” the store posted on Instagram Monday. “We thought we had another month to work out the details before Sol Tribe closed for good, but that was not the case. We are completely devastated.”

The sudden closure comes more than two years after Sol Tribe owner Alicia Cardenas and jewelry store manager Alyssa Gunn Maldonado were killed in the store by a gunman who killed five people and injured two others in a shooting spree in Denver and Lakewood on Dec. 27, 2021.

“You all supported us through symbolic hell, through our toughest times and we will never forget it,” the store’s Instagram post read. “We are devastated by this news and heartbroken.”

Sol Tribe's owners could not be reached for comment by The Denver Post on Tuesday.

Next week, the season finale of the Investigation Discovery television series “Deadly Influence: The Social Media Murders” will explore the 2021 shooting and how “the killer’s devotion to an online community of misogyny led him down a violent path,” according to the network.

The episode “Control Alt Delete” airs on Investigation Discovery and airs on Max at 7pm Monday.
