Smoke Advisory: 'After Fire' Affects Los Angeles County Air Quality

A massive brush fire that ravaged nearly 15,000 acres over the weekend forced officials to issue a wildfire smoke advisory for parts of Los Angeles County.

The advisory issued Sunday by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) remains in effect until 5 p.m. Monday for areas of the San Fernando Valley, West Valley of San Gabriel and the San Gabriel Mountains.

“Even in areas away from fires or in areas not covered by a smoke advisory, if you can smell smoke or see ash from a wildfire, avoid or limit outdoor activities,” a declared the SCAQMD.

A map of areas affected by the “post-fire” is seen on a map provided by the South Coast Air Quality Management District on June 16, 2024.

The alert comes as the Post Fire continues to burn Monday after erupting in northern Los Angeles County over the weekend and then spreading into Ventura County on Sunday evening.

The fire had burned 14,625 acres as of early Monday morning and was only 8% contained, according to an update from Cal Fire.

Authorities said more than 1,200 people were forced to evacuate their homes.

Gusty winds and warm afternoon temperatures are expected to continue fueling the fire Monday.
