Skull found in creek belonged to Easton man missing for more than 2 years

EASTON — Authorities say a skull found in a creek belonged to an Easton man who went missing more than two years ago.

The grandfather of Matthew Yeomans of 113 Summer St. reported him missing on Sept. 21, 2021, the Bristol County Prosecutor's Office said. Yeomans was 25 years old at that time. When he disappeared, police found Yeoman's cell phone, ID cards and wallet at his home.

Investigators have not revealed the cause of his death. At the time of his disappearance, he was known to be suffering from medical and mental health issues. A spokesperson for the prosecutor's office said there was “no threat to the public.”

Matthew Yeomans of Easton was reported missing on September 19, 2021. Skeletal remains found on May 1, 2024 were identified as his.

The case broke on May 1, when the owner of a home near 113 Summer Street discovered a skull in a creek on his property. Investigators are testing additional bones found at the scene the next day by searchers from the Massachusetts State Police, Easton police and the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council. The state's chief medical examiner used dental records to identify the skull as Yeoman's, the prosecutor's office said.

Yeoman's disappearance then gave rise to intense searches. Authorities used dogs, the state police air wing, all-terrain vehicles and ATVs to comb the area. These searches yielded nothing.
