Skeletal remains found in Orlando woods identified after more than 30 years

ORLANDO, Florida – Skeletal remains discovered in a wooded area of ​​Orlando more than 30 years ago have now been identified, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

In a statement, deputies said the remains were discovered near Heather Road and Dennis Avenue on January 12, 1993.

“The victim was determined to be a white male and the cause of death was ruled a homicide due to a gunshot wound to the head,” the statement read. “Despite extensive efforts, the victim’s identity remained unknown for nearly three decades.”

But thanks to technological advances, investigators said OCSO recently identified the victim as Greg Carpenter, 48.

According to deputies, Carpenter was last seen alive on Dec. 26, 1992, and was reported missing the same day, nearly three weeks before his body was exhumed.

With his identity now known, detectives are asking for the public's help in solving the case.
