Six shots fired, one dead in shooting in Westport, Kansas City, Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Six people were injured and one killed in a shooting early Sunday morning near the Westport entertainment district in Kansas City, Missouri, according to police.

Around 1:20 a.m., the Kansas City Police Department received several reports of shots fired east of the intersection of Westport Road and Broadway.


When officers arrived on scene, they located seven gunshot victims. Six of the victims appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries, while another victim, a man, was believed to be unresponsive, according to KCPD.

Officers called EMS to the scene where they took the gunshot victims, including the unconscious man, to the hospital. Doctors later pronounced the man dead.

KCPD said one person is currently in custody and preliminary investigations indicate a group of people east of the intersection and on the south side of the street were involved in a disturbance that escalated into fire. According to police, one or more people could be involved.

There were likely a large number of people in the area of ​​the shooting, KCPD said. They ask that if anyone heard or saw anything to call homicide detectives directly at (816) 234-5043 or the TIPS hotline at (816) 474-8477. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for anonymous tips sent to the hotline.
