Six juveniles charged in drowning death of teenager in Oakland Park – CNAW 2 with Colin Scroggins

Six juveniles face serious charges following an investigation into the drowning death of a teenager in Oakland Park.

The investigation began after Columbus Police officers responded to a report of a body floating in the water near the fields behind Howe Avenue at the dead end of Ormand Drive on May 29, 2024. Zahmere Greene,
15, was later identified as the body floating in the retention pond.

During the Violent Crimes Unit's investigation, preliminary findings indicated that Greene drowned on May 23, 2024, but the incident was not reported until six days later.

“Further investigation revealed that several juveniles witnessed the incident,” police said.

An 11-year-old minor has been charged with manslaughter and concealing the death of another. A 17-year-old identified as Sane Sano, a 12-year-old minor, two 11-year-old minors and a 9-year-old minor are accused of covering up the death of another.

“The 11-year-old is currently being held at the Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC),” police said. “The 17-year-old is incarcerated in the Muscogee County Jail, while the other juveniles have been processed and released to their parents.”

The case is still ongoing.
