Six injured in shooting in Crete; suspect is dead, state police say

The Nebraska State Patrol is providing an update on a shooting in Crete Friday.



CRETE — Six people were injured, including three children, Friday afternoon in a shooting in Crete, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

Around 4:35 p.m., first responders were called to a home in a neighborhood near Longwood Drive and Boswell Avenue on the city's east side for a report of multiple gunshots, the police captain said. State Patrol Sean Caradori.

Law enforcement from the Crete Police Department, State Patrol and the Saline County Sheriff's Office responded to the shooting.

When officers arrived at the home, they found six people – three adults and three children – with gunshot wounds and also heard a gunshot coming from a house across the street.

The ages of the victims have not been released.

The victims were escorted out of the home through a back door and all six were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Around 7 p.m., SWAT team officers went to the home where they had heard a gunshot and found a man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

SWAT team officers found a shotgun inside the home. The man is believed to be the shooter who injured the six people, Caradori said.

“This type of situation can certainly shake the community,” Caradori said.
