Six injured in shooting in Crete

CRETE, Neb. (KLKN) — Six people were shot dead in Crete Friday afternoon, according to authorities.

The incident happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. in the northeast part of the city, according to Nebraska State Police.

First responders found six people with gunshot wounds at a home near Crestline Drive and Parklane Street. The patrol said three of the victims were children.

The victims were transported to the Crete Region Medical Center. Some have since been transported to other hospitals, authorities said.

The State Patrol said their injuries were not life-threatening.

While on scene, officers heard a gunshot coming from a house across the street.

Inside that home, they found a man dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Nearby Doane University was closed for about an hour.

“We have received reports of an off-campus incident in Crete and have secured all campus buildings as a precaution,” the university said on social media. “If you are on campus, we recommend that you stay indoors until we have the all-clear.”
