Singer Jon Bellion reveals alleged pitfalls of his old deal with Live Nation

Singer Jon Bellion revealed the inner workings of his old unfavorable deal with Live Nation on The George Janko Show.

“Basically I got to a point in my career, we sold out 10,000 people at Jones Beach, I mean that was the pinnacle of everything for me and that was around the time I figured out how my Live Nation contract worked,” Bellion recalled at the 1:02 mark in the video above. “That’s about the time I figured out how my record deal actually worked.”

Bellion remembers being wary of the amount of food and items purchased while on tour. “When you discover this on the road and you ask yourself, 'Why did we buy 300 rolls of toilet paper?' Why did we have to spend so much on catering every day? ” did he declare. “No one eats pizza. We throw pies. »

The singer didn't understand why he was expected to repay his advance when there were so many alleged loopholes exploited by Live Nation. He recalled that his deal was conditional on “challenging ticket sales,” while the live entertainment company only profited from a concept known as “peanuts, parking and booze” that grossed far more than that. that Bellion saw.

“You advance me a million and tell me I'm rich and then find out you're making four million a night,” he explained. “I need 36 shows to repay the million you advanced me.”

Due to the strict ticket sales model, Bellion said he not only had to sell out every show to ensure he didn't fall into the red, but he also faced the possibility that Live Nation offers tickets to his shows at a lower price, which was allowed in his contract.

Bellion said this realization was accompanied by panic attacks until he backed out of his deal with Live Nation by paying an additional 25 percent of his advance.
