Silver Springs residents arrested on drug charges

DAYTON, Nev. (KOLO) – Two Silver Springs residents are facing drug charges after police say a traffic stop in Dayton revealed they were in possession of a large amount of methamphetamine and other drugs.

Around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, detectives with the Lyon County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on a car in Dayton. The driver was identified as James Weslow, 62, while the passenger was identified as Penny Bettencourt, 59.

Police say they discovered a large quantity of methamphetamine during the check. This discovery led police to serve a search warrant at their Silver Springs residence. During a search, police discovered another large quantity of methamphetamine and other narcotics.

In total, police say they recovered 2.1 pounds of methamphetamine, 11 pounds of marijuana, 42 grams of cocaine, numerous quantities of drug paraphernalia and sales packaging material, as well as seven firearms.

Weslow and Bettencourt were arrested and booked into the Lyon County Jail on charges including trafficking a Schedule 1 controlled substance. Weslow's bond was set at $229,895, while Bettencourt's was set at $17,280. $.
