WATERVILLE — Police have identified the man killed in Wednesday's crash at Trafton and West River roads as Joshua Nelson, 35, of Sidney.

Nelson died after the dump truck he was driving around 2:30 p.m. struck the driver's side door of a Toyota Camry, according to a statement released Friday by Maj. Jason Longley of the Waterville Police Department.

Police said the driver of the Camry, whose identity has not been released because he is a juvenile, was turning left from Trafton Road onto West River Road.

Nelson and the other driver were ejected from their vehicle upon impact, police said. Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roofers working nearby who witnessed the accident told the Morning Sentinel they called 911 and tried to help those involved in the wreck.

The unidentified driver of the Camry was first taken to Northern Light Inland Hospital in Waterville for treatment of what police described as serious injuries, then was transferred to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Since the crash involved a commercial vehicle, the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit is also investigating, including reconstructing the crash and using forensic mapping. Waterville police did not immediately identify who Nelson worked for behind the wheel of the dump truck.
