Shrewsbury man arrested on drug charges, faces multiple charges

SHREWSBURY — A routine security check at a local warehouse led to the arrest of a man accused of drug trafficking and other offenses early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 2:17 a.m., Officer Ljunggren of the Shrewsbury Police Department was conducting a check at the Cube Smart Self Storage at 757 Boston Turnpike.

The officer noticed a vehicle parked in front of an open storage unit with a man inside.

Upon closer inspection, the vehicle's license plate and inspection sticker appeared to be altered.

The man, later identified as Alexander Quinonez, 41, of Worcester, initially provided a false name and was unable to provide vehicle owner information.

Further investigation revealed that Quinonez had four outstanding warrants for his arrest.

A search of the vehicle revealed two scales and a significant quantity of drugs, including 27 grams of cocaine, more than 18 grams of crack cocaine, more than 9 grams of fentanyl and 27 unidentified pills awaiting laboratory analysis.

Agents also seized $2,158 in cash under the Massachusetts Controlled Substances Act, which allows for forfeiture of funds related to drug distribution.

Quinonez was arrested on all four arrest warrants and faces additional charges including trafficking in Class B substances (cocaine and crack), possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute, possession of a Class E substance with intent to distribute, providing a false ID card to the police and presenting a false RMV document.

Officers Anding, Mattero and Lt. Cameron participated in the arrest.

Shrewsbury Police continue to investigate the incident.
