SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A man accused of beating and robbing an acquaintance after an argument over $60 was sentenced Wednesday in Caddo District Court.

According to the Caddo County District Attorney's Office, Johnny “Pooh” Thompson, Jr., 47, was convicted of second-degree theft on May 7.

Thompson Jr.'s guilty verdict was related to the April 2, 2022, incident at a home on Audrey Lane. The victim, Robert Wayne Williams, and a mutual friend's house were playing dominoes; meanwhile he placed money on the kitchen table.

While Williams and his friend were playing dominoes and drinking, Thompson allegedly arrived and confronted Williams about money the victim owed him after seeing the money on the table.

Thompson allegedly demanded money, punched Williams in the face and continued to punch him despite efforts by others to stop the beating.

Williams was beaten unconscious, dragged from the house into a car and taken to an abandoned house on Kelsey Street by Thompson.

Shreveport police officers found Williams disoriented and unable to explain how he got to the abandoned house. He was brought to Ochsner LSU Health and, over time, was moved to a nursing facility and then hospice, where he died in February 2023. Williams' cause of death was determined to be natural cause.

Thompson received the maximum sentence for second-degree robbery, 40 years of hard labor.
