Shots fired on Telegraph Ave., suspect arrested, no injuries reported | City

An argument involving a group of individuals near the intersection of Telegraph and Durant avenues escalated into violence early this morning, resulting in the discharge of at least one firearm, according to the Berkeley Police Department, or BPD.

BPD and UCPD responded to the scene shortly before 2 a.m. on reports of shots fired.

No injuries were reported during the incident. BPD officials, including Lt. Peter Lee, confirmed that a firearm was recovered and a suspect was arrested in connection with the incident. However, specific charges are pending as the investigation continues. The type of firearm involved has not been confirmed.

UCPD Sgt. James Jenkins explained that although the location is just off campus, the proximity to university property and ongoing patrol duties led campus police to assist in the response and the subsequent investigation.

Additionally, a WarnMe alert was issued at 2:35 a.m. advising all UC Berkeley affiliates to avoid the area around Telegraph Avenue and Channing Way while the investigation was ongoing. The alert has since been lifted and Lee reassures there are no ongoing safety concerns.

BPD said the investigation is ongoing.
