Shots fired at Kroger grocery store near Cincinnati, Ohio; suspect in custody

A suspect has been arrested following reports of a shooting at a Kroger grocery store just outside of Cincinnati, according to police.

Police previously said one person was hit, but later said it was unclear if anyone was hit by gunfire.

In an update Wednesday afternoon, Colerain police said two people were transported to a nearby hospital.

The investigation is ongoing, police said, calling on the public to avoid the area.

Authorities were dispatched to the Kroger on Springdale Road just before 4 p.m. ET, according to the Colerain Police Department.

At a press conference Wednesday, Colerain Police Department PIO Jim Love said the incident began inside the store, with an individual identified as the subject of the police's attention. the police.

“There was a little chase in and out of the store,” Love said, adding, “Eventually we were able to arrest the individual.”

The investigation is ongoing, Love said.

“As far as I know, everything is locked and secure. There are numerous interviews taking place right now, with assistance from various police departments,” Love said.

The exact number of shots fired remains unknown and police are working to gather all necessary evidence, according to Love.

The Kroger location remains closed and police will review security cameras as part of their investigation.

“We're making sure everything is handled properly before we allow people back in,” Love said, adding, “The cameras in the store will be crucial to the investigation.”

Love noted that this Kroger location is one of the busiest in the township, saying, “Having shots fired in the middle of the day here is a big problem.” »
