Short shooting in North Columbus, Ohio on June 23, 2024: What we know

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — 10 people are injured after a mass shooting early Sunday morning in the Short North Arts District near downtown Columbus.

Columbus police said 10 people were shot in the 1100 block of North High Street just before 2:30 a.m. One of the victims, a man, is in critical condition while the other nine are in stable condition.

Of the ten shooting victims, all of whom police said were men, two are juveniles and the other eight are adults. CPD said the victims' ages ranged from 16 to 27 years old. Police remain on scene to investigate with North High Street closed from 5th to 3rd Avenues.

Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert said a suspect was located by special duty officers immediately after the shooting. A pursuit ensued with the suspect vehicle traveling the wrong way on North 4th Street. The car then traveled westbound on I-670 before police lost it near the Grandview Avenue exit.

CPD said they identified the suspect vehicle as a white Honda Civic and asked anyone with information to contact them.

This is the second time in just over a year that a mass shooting has occurred in the Short North. On May 6, 2023, two simultaneous shootings occurred, leaving at least 10 people shot, including one person shot by an officer.

11 guns were recovered in the May 2023 shooting and none of the officers who fired the shots will face charges. Last year's mass shooting prompted months of heightened security measures.
