Philadelphia police are investigating after a violent evening in Southwest Philadelphia left two people dead and at least five others injured in separate shootings.

Police say officers responded to the area of Cobbs Creek and 58th Street, as well as the nearby intersection of 58th Street and Baltimore Avenue, following a shooting that occurred around 10:37 p.m. Saturday evening.

Here, officials said, first responders found two men with gunshot wounds.

Both were taken to nearby hospitals and, according to police officials, officers also learned that two other shooting victims had been taken to area hospitals after being involved in that shooting.

Around 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning, police identified the victims as just two men and two women, all aged in their twenties.

One of the men, officials said, was shot in the neck and reported Saturday around 11:18 p.m. The other three victims all suffered gunshot wounds to their arms and legs and, authorities said, their condition is stable.

Police recovered a firearm from a private vehicle that was transporting one of the victims to the hospital. However, according to Philadelphia Police Detective DF Pace, investigators do not yet know if this weapon is linked to the shooting.

Additionally, when asked if this incident could be linked to another shooting that occurred on the same block the night before, Pace wasn't sure, but said investigators were working to determine if There was a connection.

In that incident, which occurred around 11:40 p.m. Friday evening, a 29-year-old man was shot multiple times at the intersection of 58th and Elsworth streets. This man, authorities said, is hospitalized in stable condition.

So far, according to police, no arrests have been made in connection with these incidents.

A police officer walks near one of the vehicles involved in a fatal drive-by shooting that occurred near the intersection of 62nd Street and Grays Avenue Saturday evening.

A second person was killed Saturday night in another shooting in Southwest Philadelphia, about a half-hour after the first incident.

The shooting, which occurred shortly after 11 p.m. near the intersection of 62nd Street and Elmwood Avenue, was the result of a road rage incident, police said.

Pace said police believe that earlier in the evening two vehicles were involved in a crash near the intersection of 62nd Street and Grays Avenue, when a blue Ford SUV struck a white Jeep SUV.

Rather than exchanging information, Pace said, the parties in both vehicles began arguing and eventually exchanged gunfire.

Police believe the people in both vehicles had firearms and were involved in this shooting.

During the shooting, officials said, three people were hit by gunfire, including a man in his 20s who was killed.

Another victim underwent surgery overnight and Pace was unsure of the extent of that person's injuries.

The third victim was shot in the back and, according to authorities, was hospitalized in stable condition.

After the incident, one of the people involved in the shooting went to police headquarters to report the incident.

That person, Pace said, is in custody and investigators are still working to determine who might have been the aggressor in that shooting and whether or not any of those individuals were acting in self-defense.

All of the shootings remain under investigation, officials said.
