A suspect has been arrested and charged in the fatal shooting Sunday evening of an Altoona man in Cresson Borough.

Douglas B. Leap, 46, faces one count of criminal homicide and related charges in the shooting death of 31-year-old Ambrose Bowers.

State police were called around 11:55 p.m. Sunday to an area near the intersection of Front Street and Keystone Avenue for a report of shots fired and a man lying in the roadway.

Cambria County Prosecutor Greg Neugebauer said Bowers was found dead at the scene. Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said Bowers, who was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m. Monday, died from massive blood loss from multiple gunshot wounds.

Neugebauer said an investigation was immediately launched by state police, with assistance from the Cambria County Prosecutor's Office and police departments from Cresson, Gallitzin and South Fork boroughs.

Additionally, Keystone Regional Fire and Rescue provided lighting and traffic control, while Cambria County Box 11 provided comfort support to first responders, Neugebauer said in a news release.

The scene remained blocked off Monday as investigators, including South Fork Borough Police Chief Donald Wyar and his K-9 officer, along with Cresson Borough Police Chief Nicholas Jastrab , searched for clues and collected evidence.

Leap's arrest was announced Monday evening. He is currently awaiting arraignment.
