Shooting reported on Springdale Road in Colerain Township

TO GO LATE. So for now, it's clear radar. At least here in Greater Cincinnati. But we're just broadening that view a bit. AND YOU'RE SEEING THIS LINE OF SHOWERS RIGHT NOW NEAR SPRINGFIELD, JUST NORTH OF DAYTON. AND IT'S GOING TO GROW SLOWLY IN OUR AREA AS WE PRACTICE IN THE AFTERNOON IN SOME GAMES OF TONIGHT. BUT AGAIN, THIS WHOLE SYSTEM, THE LOW PRESSURE IN THE EAST AND THE LITTLE RAIN ON THE WEST SIDE DOESN'T REALLY HOLD TOGETHER TOO WELL. THAT'S WHY WE'RE SAYING IT'S REALLY JUST A BAD CHANCE THERE FOR THIS AFTERNOON, THE TEMPERATURES WILL ALSO BE A LITTLE COOLER IF YOU GO OUTSIDE. YOU MAY NEED A LIGHT JACKET, MAYBE A SWEATER WITH TEMPERATURES ONLY IN THE LOWER 60S, MID 60S AND HAMILTON 61 BLUE ASH. AND WE'RE JUST EXPECTING THESE 60S TO REALLY REACH NEAR 70 DEGREES UP TO THE UPPER 60S FOR TODAY BEFORE WE HAVE ANOTHER COOL AND COLD NIGHT AHEAD. SO IN MY FULL FORECAST, WE'RE GOING TO TALK MORE ABOUT THIS SCATTERED PARACHET RAIN THIS AFTERNOON. AND WHEN WARMER TEMPERATURES RETURN TO THE FORECAST, WE WILL HAVE THIS AND MANY MORE COMING HERE IN JUST A FEW MINUTES. KELLY. Very good, ADAM. THANK YOU. As of noon, two arrests made in connection with thefts. We previously reported that the Butler County Sheriff's Office was offering a $2,000 reward for information in this case. They now have two suspects in custody for alleged thefts of sporting goods at the Liberty Center. SO TANIKA BROWN AND SANOJ WILLIAMS ARE BOTH 20 YEARS OLD FROM DAYTON, OHIO. The sheriff's office says the suspects were caught on video stealing Stanley cups and bags. FROM THE STORE ON APRIL 2, THEN AGAIN ON MAY 9. The thefts totaled more than $2,000, making it a fifth-degree misdemeanor. AUTHORITIES ARE STILL ATTEMPTING TO IDENTIFY MORE SUSPECTS IN THIS CASE. WELL, NEW HERE ON WLWT. CONTINUING CONVERSATIONS ON WAYS TO REDUCE GUN VIOLENCE IN CINCINNATI THIS SUMMER. And this morning, the municipal police chief detailed his department's efforts to keep the number of crimes as low as possible. WLWT NEWS FIVE REPORTER TODD DIJCK'S LIVE DOWNTOWN. WITH THIS NEW INFORMATION, TODD. YEAH. Kelly and Megan, you know, try to keep the trends going in the right direction. That's the message Police Chief Terry shared with members of the Cincinnati Public Safety Committee this morning here at City Hall. THE MESSAGE WAS SIMILAR TO ONE THAT WAS SHARED LAST WEEK DURING A PRESS CONFERENCE HELD FOLLOWING THE SHOOTING DEATH OF LAMONT WIGGINS. WIGGINS, 18, WAS SHOT AND KILLED A FEW HOURS AFTER GRADUATING FROM WITHROW HIGH SCHOOL. THIS IS A CASE THAT CASTS A REAL SHADOW ON SOME ENCOURAGING NEWS REGARDING POLICE EFFORTS TO RECOVER STOLEN GUNS AND MINIMIZE GUN VIOLENCE BY YOUTH. EVERYONE KNOWS WE ARE MONITORING GUN VIOLENCE INVOLVING OUR YOUTH AND OUR COMMUNITY. WE SAW AN INCREASE, WE DECIDED TO START TRACKING THE DATA. I am happy to report on this year so far. Currently, we have 50% fewer juvenile victims of gun violence than this time last year. SO LAST YEAR WE WERE 24. THIS YEAR WE ARE AT 12, WHICH IS STILL 12 TOO MANY. YEAH, 12 TOO MANY. But at least coming down to the bottom now, Chief Teague said she's very happy that there's an all-hands-on-deck approach at City Hall. YOUTH DEFENDERS. Obviously the police had signed it. EVERYONE SEEMS TO BE MORE AND MORE ON THE SAME PAGE. OF COURSE, SHE AND CITY OFFICIALS EMPHASIZE THE ROLE PARENTS PLAY WHEN IT COMES TO KEEPING YOUNG PEOPLE SAFE FROM DANGER. FOR NOW, REPORTING LIVE FROM DOWNTOWN TODD – WLWT. NEWS FIVE. ALL RIGHT. Now, Todd, did the chief have anything to say about the Lamont Wiggins murder investigation? YEAH. You know, Kelly, I asked him where things stood on this case. She said she, you know, no arrests were made. She really pleaded with anyone with information about what happened about a week and a half ago, early Saturday morning, a week ago, around two:33 in the morning. If anyone knows something, even if they think it's insignificant, she wants them to contact the detectives, to contact the police because that might help these detectives solve a puzzle that, right now , is just that, a real puzzle. KELLY. Alright, Todd, reporting for us downtown. TODD, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. ALL RIGHT. DEVELOPMENT HERE ON WLWT. WE'RE LEARNING MORE ABOUT A DEADLY GAS EXPLOSION IN YOUNGSTOWN. Officials say AKIL DRAKE, 27, was found dead in the rubble overnight. Drake was a bank employee, and the explosion happened at a Chase bank yesterday afternoon. THE ENTIRE FIRST FLOOR OF THE 13-STORY BUILDING IS DESTROYED. AT LEAST SEVEN PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO HOSPITAL. We're told one is in critical condition. OFFICIALS SAY EVERYONE HAS BEEN COUNTED. NOW IS THE OPPORTUNITY TO KEEP THE COMMUNITY SAFE. THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THIS BUILDING IS IN QUESTION HERE. AN EVACUATION ORDER IS NOW IN PLACE FOR SURROUNDING BUILDINGS AND SEVERAL ROADS HAVE BEEN CLOSED. There is nothing more immediate than life itself. And until I, the fire chief of this city, am assured by the structural engineers that this building is safe. Nobody goes in this building. STATE FIREFIGHTERS ARE STILL ON THE SCENE THERE LEADI
