Shooting on Pittsburgh's North Shore near popular restaurants worries nearby residents – WPXI

PITTSBURGH — The North Shore was packed Saturday for the Kenny Chesney concert. Thousands of people filled parking lots, restaurants and bars. Michaela Rittenhouse said she had a lot of fun with her friends.

“Saturday we hung out all day. We arrived around noon. There was a huge crowd,” Rittenhouse said.

However, it was a scary end to a fun day. Shortly after the concert ended, police said a man was shot several times in the chest and arm around 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

The victim's friends drove him to the hospital and told police they were hanging out in a courtyard near popular restaurants when someone opened fire.

“It's so terrifying because I feel like this area is a pretty safe area for the most part and to think that there are that many people around this area until 2:30 in the morning is a little worrying,” Rittenhouse said.

Police said they found 20 shell casings of different calibers at the scene as well as a trail of blood. People who live nearby said it was shocking.

“It’s surprising that something like this would happen,” Alyssa Gaefke said.

People have a lot of questions about what led to the shooting. Anna Kelly said security is normally present on the North Shore and it makes her feel uneasy.

“I think it’s concerning that someone was shot. I agree that we are both here quite often and I have never really felt unsafe,” Anna Kelly said.

“You really feel like you have to be on the lookout and absolutely pay attention,” Rittenhouse said.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Pittsburgh police.
