Shooting on Hodge Road near Wendell, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office

WENDELL, N.C. (WNCN) — Wake County deputies responded after a woman was shot north of Wendell late Sunday evening, authorities said.

The shooting was reported around 10:40 p.m. along the 7000 block of Hodge Road, which is between Fowler Road and Riley Hill Road, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Officers responded to the scene Sunday evening to determine the circumstances of the shooting, the statement said. CBS 17 crews saw several deputies gathered near a home just off Hodge Road.

By 11:30 p.m., Wake County officers had blocked off Hodge Road, near the scene of the reported shooting.

The location is approximately 8.5 miles north of Wendell and approximately 8 miles northwest of Zebulon.
