Shooting in the stadium area on Georgia Street

The shooting happened on Georgia Street Friday evening. As of 9 p.m., police say some cars in Lot P of Jags Stadium could be stuck for hours.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A shooting occurred Friday evening on Georgia Street in the downtown stadium area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said the victim was in serious condition when he was transported to the hospital.

Although they said there was no threat to the public, JSO closed a large portion of Georgia Street near Lot P of EverBank Stadium. They cordoned off sections of the parking lot that were part of the crime scene. As of 9 p.m., they indicated that some cars in Lot P could be blocked for several more hours.

JSO says there is no threat to the public.

An officer dispatched to JSO said they believe the shooter is in custody, but this is not confirmed at this time.

Georgia Street is one of the side streets where 121 Financial Ballpark is located.

It also borders Jaguars Stadium's Lot J and is a block from Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena, where graduation ceremonies were held Friday night.

Police have not yet confirmed the time the shooting happened, so we don't know if it happened during graduation or during the Jumbo Shrimp game.

The Jumbo Shrimp game did not stop at any point.

JSO says they will hold a press conference if there is more information to share.
