Shooting in Southern California leaves one dead, another hospitalized

One person was killed, another hospitalized after a Riverside County suspect allegedly fired a gun at passing cars Monday and then stripped naked.

Authorities from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department flooded the intersection of State and West 7th streets of San Jacinto following reports of gunfire just after 7 a.m.

In surveillance footage from a nearby business, obtained by KTLA's Shelby Nelson, a man can be seen walking down the street. Shortly after, what sounds like gunshots are heard as cars drive by on State Street.

The driver of a black sedan then crashes, destroying the front of the vehicle. There was also a white van spotted with several bullet holes, two of which had pierced its windshield.

It is currently unknown if any of the two shooting victims were in these vehicles.

Witnesses in the area believe the man had been shooting randomly at passing cars and some reports suggest he was seen undressing after the shooting.

The person believed to be the suspect then went to Carniceria El Toro.

“At first I didn't pay attention to it, it's just a regular customer and a normal day,” the store clerk, who did not wish to be identified, told KTLA. “Then, after I finished with the customer in front of him, he started walking back and forth and he said to me, 'What can I buy for a dollar?'”

The employee said she gave him a few options and the man started looking around.

“Then he put on his hoodie and I got nervous,” she explained. “I said, 'Is he going to rob me or something because he was sweaty and he looked a little nervous.'

Eventually, the man left the store, was located by police and taken into custody.

KTLA has contacted the Riverside County Sheriff's Department for the identity of the victims and suspect and is awaiting a response.
