Shooting in northwest Springfield leaves one dead, one injured

An early morning shooting in northwest Springfield left one man dead and a woman injured, the Springfield Police Department (SPD) said.

On July 5 at 4:24 a.m., officers responded to a call about a man who had been shot in the area of ​​West Chestnut Street and North Kansas Expressway, Cris Swaters, the Springfield Police Department's public information officer, confirmed via text message.

Police arrived and located a man and woman who had been shot outside a residence in the 1600 block of West Chestnut Street.

The man died at the scene and the woman was taken to Springfield Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police are still investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
